  • Statistics Day

    India has been observing 29th June every year since 2007 as Statistics Day to mark the birth anniversary of late Professor P.C. Mahalanobis, in recognition of the contribution made by him in the field of Economic Planning and Statistics. The celebrations are made with an aim of creating public awareness especially among the younger generation for drawing inspiration from late Professor P.C. Mahalanobis about the role of statistics in socio-economic planning and policy formulation.  

  • Support for Statistical Strengthening (SSS)

​        Support for Statistical Strenthening (SSS) formaly India Statistical Strengthening Project (ISSP) , aims to strengthen the State Statistical Systems by wayof providing adequate technical and financial             support to improve  their statistical capacity and infrastructure for collecting, compiling and disseminating reliable official statistics for policy planning purposes particularly at State and Sub-State levels.        With the above primary objective, the  SSS could also be preceived as a scheme aimed to act as a catalyst in facilitating implementation of Natinal Strategic Statistical Plan (NSSP)  for meeting growing         data requirements, both at National and International  levels.

  • The Collection of Statistics Act, 2008

    The new Act was basically enacted to overcome the limitations of the 1953 Act and strengthening the administration of statistical activities. This Act has come into force in entire country except Jammu & Kashmir. The Government of Jammu & Kashmir has also enacted the Jammu & Kashmir Collection of Statistics Act, 2010 on similar lines. The data for the Annual Surveys of Industries for 2010-11 to 2012-13 and 6th Economic Census has been collected under this Act.  

  • International Cooperation and Partnership

    Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation is the nodal agency for capacity development of statistical personnel for the SAARC member States. Specialized Statistical Training courses on statistical methodology and official statistical system are organized for SAARC and other developing countries. MoSPI has also entered into agreements with various Countries/ International Organizations other than SAARC for capacity development of their statistical personnel. In order to foster coordination in the field of Statistics, an MoU was signed with EUROSTAT during the 12th Annual India-EU Summit held at New Delhi on February 10, 2012.  Besides fostering coordination and collaboration on the development of official statistics, this MoU is designed and implemented to create links and to increase exchanges between both the sides in the context of ‘Statistical Services”. An agreement has been signed with Statistical Institute of Asia and Pacific (SIAP) for conducting training programmes for Government officials/statisticians of countries from Asia and the Pacific Region at NSSTA.
