Given the increaing share of
categories such as home-based workers and street vendors in the labour force of many -if
not all - countries and especially in the female labour force, it is recommended to
systematically include in labour force surveys examination of the degree of dependency
/independency by asking questions on the relationships with suppliers and buyers the
provision of eqipment and the mode of remuneration. Another issue to be more
systematically addressed regarding these two categories should be the place of work.
This question, asked to all the
persons in the labour force should distinguish between various types if enterprise
premises, domestic premises, street premises and mobile work.
Countries should be encouraged to
supply national estimates disaggregated by gender, for these categories, on the basis of
existing sources.
As to the size (in terms of
employment ) and the contribution (in terms of GDP of the informal sector it should be
recommended that
ILO (in collaboration with UNSD)
persue their inventory projects
Additional efforts be made in view
of providing data and estimates disaggregated by gender, and by specific groups
(home-based workers, street vendors in particular).
It is also recommended that
national accountants provide disaggregated GDP estimates
By detailed industrial
alassification
by formal and informal sector
by regional location (regions,
cities)
